A new line for the night on April 28 sent the month out with a bang. A first Boiling Point guest spot for Mr Maclean proved he is Mr MacCool with a delicious mix up of Professor Longhair piano licks and Betty James classics. Ayyub was back at the decks to ease us into the night with a set of funky jazz and Spenny dropped a fantastic new Japanese reggae release by Jennifer Lara. One of my favourite plays on the night was the juke joint classic Bugger Bugger Boy by Lightening Slim. Hot on the heels came two latest acquistions, Amadou Ballake's Fanta and Antoine Dougbe's Ako Sea Guera-Behanzin. Antione was based in Benin when this was pressed, probably in the 70s.
The Magic Man weaves his spells! It was great to see old DJ friends from the Marvel and Gas Station, both sadly missed, that continued Norwich's history of fantastic specialist nights. These guys know how to mix to the old and the new, filling dance floors with Soul, Ska, Funk and so much more. Lots of new faces too, so word is spreading that Boiling Point is the hot ticket in town. Look out for the next........May 26th.
