hi there, nice blogg i must say. My friend is leaving for Mali next week & he was curious too see if there's any recordshops or markets around where they have vinyl. Thankful for any help, best regards. Rickard in Stockholm (rickardmasip@hotmail.com)
I’ve been collecting most genres of black music since the age of 14!!! In my teens soul funk and reggae was the main order of day, going to northern soul all-niters, then it was Canvey Island Goldmine funk nights and some of my earliest outings to Arthur’s club in Lowestoft to catch the regular Trojan label revues Dave and Ansell Collins , Pioneers and Desmond Dekker.
Moved to Norwich and started DJing in 1980 by this time, through some older mates, I got into Rythmn 'n blues and jazz closely followed with African music and then Latin .I made regular trips to New Orleans especially the heritage festival which was responsible for influencing my worldwide approach, although in the mid 80s I was well into my soul especially from the American south.
Set up the Jolly Butchers club in Norwich , nothing has touched it since. I’ve been putting on nights at a variety of Norwuich venues ever since. Catch my fortnightly slot on Future Radio, 96.9 FM Sundays 11-1.00pm, www.futureradio.co.uk
